Details

This hand-decorated French faience jug dates to the 18th century and features floral motifs in rich tones of indigo, sage, and ochre. The curving form is accented by an angled spout and a softly sinuous handle adorned with painted flourishes.

Faience is a tin-glazed earthenware known for its matte glaze and painterly surface—this example shows the telltale craquelure and subtle tonal variation that come with age and use. Losses along the rim and base are consistent with its history and do not affect stability.

Whether styled on open shelving or filled with garden clippings, the jug brings character and a quiet sense of story to any space.

Origin

France, 18th century

Condition

Visible wear throughout, including glaze craquelure, rim nicks, and base losses—all consistent with 18th-century faience. Stable and decorative.
