Details

An atmospheric oil on board sourced in Venice depicting an elegantly dressed woman with dark upswept hair, a high collar, gold jewelry, and a dark fur stole draped around her shoulders.

The work is signed at lower right and inscribed “Trieste – 6 luglio 1926,” dating the portrait to July 6, 1926, in Trieste, the northeastern Italian port city on the Adriatic. We especially love the sitter’s expressive gaze, the loosely worked background, and the contrast between her dark clothing and softly modeled face.

Housed in a carved cream-and-gilt wood frame with scrolling details throughout. The painting has recently been professionally re-secured within the frame.
