Details
This 1930s Art Deco chrome and cork stool features tubular chrome legs joined by a geometric crossed stretcher base and circular center detail. The round cork seat is framed by an aluminum surround, creating a contrast between the warm natural texture of the cork and the industrial quality of the chrome frame.
The sculptural proportions and streamlined construction reflect the influence of interwar British modernism while remaining versatile for a variety of interiors and uses. Ideal as a bathroom stool, occasional perch, vanity stool, or sculptural accent piece. The underside retains an Alpax maker’s stamp.
Origin
England, circa 1930s
Condition
Good vintage condition consistent with age and use. Chrome frame and aluminum surround exhibit expected light age-related wear, scattered surface marks, and minor patina throughout. Cork top appears to be original and remains in very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with use and age. Structurally sound overall.
