Details
This late 19th century French folk art mirror features an intricately layered frame composed of hazelnut twigs arranged in a geometric pattern. The deeply textured surface and darkened aged finish give the piece remarkable warmth, depth, and sculptural presence.
The mirror retains its original period glass with gentle age-related waviness and light surface variation throughout, contributing to its authentic, collected character. The primitive craftsmanship and organic materiality make the piece an especially striking example of French Art Populaire and late 19th century tramp art.
Equally suited for layering into a gallery wall, hanging in a powder room, or adding warmth and texture to any space, the mirror carries a distinctly European, storied quality that feels both rustic and refined.
Origin
France, late 19th century
Condition
Good antique condition consistent with age and use. Frame exhibits age-related wear, patina, scattered chips, losses, surface inconsistencies, and natural variation throughout the twig elements, all consistent with a late 19th century folk art piece. Period mirror plate shows gentle waviness and age-related surface variation. Hanging hardware is present on the reverse.
