This early 1800s oak hall chair reflects the stylized influence of Italian ‘sgabello’ forms, with a distinctive shaped backrest, solid plank seat, and bold silhouetted base. Each is centered by a hand-painted roundel depicting two tower-like forms—suggestive of a familial crest or armorial insignia.
Constructed from oak with through-tenon joinery, the chairs offer considerable visual weight and a sculptural profile. The pair was recently reinforced and lightly restored by our refinisher, ensuring both structural soundness and preserved patina.
We are offering these individually. Chair 1 shows a slightly more timeworn medallion, while Chair 2 has a more defined crest. Please specify if you have a preference, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Condition
Structurally reinforced and lightly restored by our refinisher. Visible age-related wear throughout, including surface splits, softened edges, and patinated finish. Painted insignias are timeworn, with Chair 1 showing slightly more loss. Both remain stable and beautifully aged—ready for decorative or occasional use.
