This late 19th- to early 20th-century Spanish lidded jar draws from the longstanding tradition of Moresque ceramics—ornamental pottery that blends Moorish and Spanish design influences dating back centuries. Made of glazed terracotta, its surface is hand-painted with intricate arabesque scrollwork in warm ochre-orange tones over a soft cream ground. Two cobalt-rimmed crests—each bearing a stylized bird—add a heraldic touch.
While the form nods to historical pharmacy jars (albarellos), this piece was likely created for decorative use. A domed lid, detailed with swirling script around its base, offers another layer of ornamentation.
With its sculptural silhouette and saturated palette, it makes a striking standalone statement or a vibrant addition to a layered display.
