Details

This early 20th-century terracotta bust depicts Hermes, the Greek god known for travel, communication, and transition. Cast in a classical style with finely modeled features and draped shoulder detail, it sits atop an integral socle base with the name “Hermes” impressed across the front. Dating to around 1920, the piece retains a richly aged surface with subtle tonal variation and surface markings that lend warmth and dimension. It makes a sculptural statement on a console, pedestal, or bookshelf—equally at home in a modern vignette or traditional setting. Styled in our own entryway as part of The Opening Edit, this piece bridges art and object beautifully.

Origin

England, early 20th century (circa 1920)

Condition

Good antique condition with expected wear and surface variation consistent with age. Minor scuffing and tonal irregularities throughout the surface contribute to its character. Structurally sound and display-ready with an appealing timeworn surface.
