Details
A richly textured vintage Dutch oil on canvas depicting an arrangement of red flowers in a glass vase against a deep brown-black ground. The flowers are created with thick impasto, contrasting with the darker, more tonal background and glass vessel.
Extensive craquelure across the painted surface contributes to the aged, atmospheric quality of the work. We especially love the vivid reds and greens against the nearly monochromatic background, as well as the substantial texture and dimension throughout the flowers and vase.
The work is signed at lower right. Housed in a substantial dark wood frame with layered cream and warm gilt-toned inner molding.
Origin
Europe
Condition
Vintage condition consistent with age. The painted surface shows extensive craquelure throughout, along with surface variation, scattered abrasions, small losses, and areas of heavily textured impasto. The canvas retains visible texture and signs of age. The wood frame shows surface wear, scratches, abrasions, finish loss, small chips and losses, and discoloration consistent with age. Wear and finish loss are particularly visible along the outer edges and corners. The reverse of the canvas, stretcher, and frame show age-related wear.
